On A Personal Note…

Last month I was able to decompress after another fulfilling season of coaching Girls’ High School hockey and swing the old wrenches. This year I visited We-Ko-Pah in the foothills of Phoenix. It was an absolute blast and as you can see in the photo, I was no stranger to the inhabitants of the Desert. Further, it was a pleasure to see all of the plans sponsors over the past two months. I enjoy our visits and catching up on what is important in your lives.
As we leave the puddles of April, we HOWL into May.
The Power of Small Data for Retirement Plan Sponsors

As a plan sponsor, you probably spend a fair amount of time dealing with it one way or another — whether you’re gathering, analyzing, or reporting it. And for good reason, given the intrinsic value of data-driven decision making.
Much of this data exists on a macro level, including market trends, economic reports, white papers published by asset managers, and industry benchmarks. But how well are you leveraging small data available right within your own organization?….
The Retirement Planning Gap Affecting Two in Three Investors

Despite the importance of retirement planning, a staggering 67% of investors admit to spending no time at all working on it in a typical month, according to a recent survey conducted by the Nationwide Retirement Institute. That’s a vast majority of investors failing to take even small steps toward securing their financial future. For plan sponsors, this presents both a….

A recent Fidelity report reveals that over 80% of plan sponsors prefer to allow employees to keep their assets in-plan and withdraw them over time. The number of workers aged 55 and older has increased by 74% over the past two decades, prompting plan sponsors to focus more on how participants transition….

Mr. C’s Movie (Show) Review

I’ve lost another “2” weeks in my life as I binge watched Hulu’s Paradise. I would love to provide my usual gory borderline inappropriate review for the show but I will steal its thunder. The “8” episode season is better watched knowing as little as possible about its premise. It’s a twisty, stylish sci-fi thriller that’s plays out like a mash-up of Lost, 24, The Truman Show and a high-concept political drama (think House of Cards) . Blend underground bunkers, siliceous murders, and a lot of slow-burn flashback suspense. It’s a story that starts at the end and paces itself back to the beginning. Are you lost yet?
Xavier Collins (This is Us Sterling K. Brown) totally owns the screen as a Secret Service agent trying to untangle a very messy conspiracy involving 80s Pop historian President Cal Bradford (James Marsden). The show’s got some cool flashbacks, lots of secrets, and a “wait, what just happened?” vibe that makes it binge-worthy. It’s a bit serious at times and maybe takes itself too seriously, but it’s still entertaining, especially if you’re into dystopian settings and plot twists.
The episodes encompass a tense, paranoid energy that delivers to the audience. It might not be groundbreaking, but it’s slick, fast-moving, and keeps you guessing.
On a scale of: “Like It”, “Love It”, or “Gotta Have It”; it’s a “Love It” for me. The Truman Show aspect of the series is a real throwback. Reminds me of the movie Momento from the early 2000s. There is a fair amount of blood but the show can fill the slot for the entire family to sit down and enjoy; dinner and show.
